Ack van Rooyen

Jazz-Piano Trio Triority feat. Ack - Ack van Rooyen

The Piano Trio Trority has the honor of touring with Dutch jazz legend Ack van Rooyen for three days. At the age of 88 (born in The Hague in 1930), he has played with greats such as Kenny Clarke, Lucky Thompson, Herb Geller, Dizzie Gillespie, Shelly Manne and Friedrich Goulda and was part of the Steve Gadd Band.

After graduating cum laude from The Hague Conservatory as a teenager, he came into contact with jazz in New York during a trip to the USA and subsequently established jazz in the Netherlands. In Germany, he was one of the founding members of the Big Band of Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) and the SDR Orchestra. He toured with the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra and recorded records as its soloist. Together with Wolfgang Dauner and Albert Mangelsdorff, Ack van Rooyen has toured Asia and South America. He is also a member of the large line-ups of the United Jazz & Rock Ensemble and Peter Herbolzheimer’s Rhythm Combination & Brass. As a big band specialist, he has also demonstrated his qualities on the European tours of the Clark Terry Big Band and the Gil Evans Orchestra.

Musical connections between Van Rooyen and Triority lie in their shared love of modern jazz and swing. Van Rooyen’s smooth and melodic playing blends perfectly with Triority’s joyful and energetic sound. Together they promise an unforgettable evening of fun, swing, easy and energetic jazz.
